Effective 29 October 2026
CASL policy
Canada's anti-spam legislation (CASL) sets rules for commercial email. Here's how MemberLoop, and the associations that use it, follow them.
Who sends what
- Account and service messages, sent by MemberLoop for your association: sign-in links, invitations, dues notices, statements and account changes. They relate to your account and aren't promotional.
- The monthly savings summary, sent on the first of each month only to members who ticked the box for it.
- Your association's emails, written and sent by your association through MemberLoop under its own name, only to members who agreed to receive them.
- MemberLoop does not send its own promotional emails to members.
How consent is collected
Members give express consent with two unticked boxes, one for the savings summary and one for their association's emails, when they first sign in or later in account settings. We record when consent was given. Members added from an association's records start with promotional emails turned off.
What promotional emails include
Every promotional email names its sender and includes an unsubscribe link. Association emails also include the association's mailing address, and MemberLoop won't send them until the association has added one.
Unsubscribing
One click on an unsubscribe link stops promotional emails right away. You can also change your choices in account settings. You'll still receive account and service messages while you have an account.
What associations are responsible for
Associations decide what they send and to whom. They're responsible for the content of their emails and for having consent for the members they email. We recommend associations get legal advice before relying on implied consent.
